My Post Class Study Routine + PICMONIC Study Tips! | Lab Values - Nursing School
Hi! Hello,
In this blog post I'm going to tell y'all about my routine after class to study. Now, this doesn't always happen because lets be honest, nursing school is hard and sometimes a glass of wine and a nice nap sounds wayyyyyyy better! Regardless, work needs to be done so here is my study guide for after class, simulations, labs or clinical plus some Picmonic study tips!
I am in foundations of nursing currently and that means I am learning the fundamentals of what it means to be a nurse. There is a lot of topics I am familiar with due to being a CNA for many years but many of these topics I am learning for the first time. So, while in school or clinical I jot down many things throughout that I need to research more because I don't understand it or that I just want to learn more about!
Here is an example from a simulation: (don't mind my terrible handwriting)
I usually write down what it is that I need more work on, in this case it was lab values, specifically CBCs which includes WBC and RBC. I jotted down Picmonic? to remind myself to research if Picmonic has a video for lab values (of course they do!).
So I sit down after class or clinical and research these topics. I first start with opening a word document and jotting down everything I know about lab values:
Once I have what I know written down then I go to researching. I first look in my own resources the information that I need. I usually use handouts my professors give me, resources from the textbooks. I then type everything that I learned into the word document.
I then turn to Picmonic to help me learn in a more artistic way to help me really ingrain the information into my head.
I enjoy using Picmonic because the fun learning atmosphere is a positive way for me to enforce the information I'm learning. I am a visual learner and when I learn something I almost always need a visual representation for it to stick in my head! I have never been a textbook reader, it has never helped me learn. So using Picmonic is a life saver!
I have a referral link to Picmonic if you feel it would benefit you as well! The link can get you a whole 20% OFF of Picmonic! There is a free option as well! Let me know how you like it if you decide to sign up!
